Best Sunscreens For Kids With Sensitive Skin

By now we all know the impact that applying sunscreen on our children can have on protecting them from sunburns and skin cancer, but they can’t all use the same products. Kids can have all sorts of skin sensitivities, from Summer rashes to eczema and allergies, and you need to shop accordingly.

To begin, you’ll likely want to search for mineral-based sunscreens only (skip the chemical ones), and then pay close attention to the ingredient list. If you know what irritates them then you’re ahead of the game. Otherwise, start by avoiding some of the big offenders. Tip: kids can have reactions to the ingredient octyl methoxycinnamate (OMC), which helps filter UVB rays from the sun, so try starting there.

Up ahead, nine sunscreens you should check out if your little one has sensitive skin.

Badger Baby Sunscreen Cream

Not only does Badger Baby Sunscreen Cream ($14) have a non-nano zinc oxide formula to protect from the sun’s harmful UVA and UVB rays, but the added chamomile and calendula to the 98-percent organic ingredient base of sunflower oil, beeswax, and vitamin E offers soothing properties for sensitive skin.

The Honest Co. Honest Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50

Safe for parents and babies, The Honest Co. Honest Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 ($15) is made to be non-irritating and is pediatrician-tested.

Plus, it’s clear, so you don’t have to worry about walking around with a thick white lotion on your face.

TruKid Sunny Days Sport Sunscreen, SPF 30+

TruKid Sunny Days Mineral All Natural Sunscreen ($13, originally $19) is quickly becoming a favorite of parents and kids alike. The mineral-based lotion, which uses zinc oxide as its sunblock, is a non-nano and gluten-free formula.

California Baby continues to manufacture safe and effective baby products that won’t harm your tots. Its California Baby Super Sensitive Sunscreen, SPF 30+ ($28) is one of the highest rated on the EWG’s annual list, due to its 12 percent titanium dioxide formula. It’s also free of fragrances, which would work for anyone with fragrance allergies.
